Chiropractic and YOUR Immune Response

Chiropractic and YOUR Immune Response
May 9, 2020Kehoe Family ChiropracticLiving the Chiropractic Lifestyle

Stress obstructs our body’s ability to adapt. Whether the stress is physical, chemical or emotional; stress has the ability to alter our internal chemistry flooding it with stress hormone and suppressing our immune system. Long term stress can be detrimental to our overall health, leading to disease.

Can Chiropractic lower our stress?

Subluxations or misalignments of the spine affect our neurological function. Put simply, when your spine is misaligned it alters normal BRAIN-BODY communication. This causes stress hormone to be released and if left unaddressed, elevated stress hormone will cause inflammation and retard our body’s ability to defend itself. A chiropractic adjustment delivered to the spine changes neurology and decreases the release of stress hormones. Additionally, feel-good hormones like oxytocin, dopamine and serotonin are released which allow healing to take place. Repeated, regular and specific Chiropractic adjustments not only feel good by removing physical stress but Chiropractic care can RE-WIRE the brain, improving the way our body not only reacts to stress but can change the way we perceive stress.

Chiropractic Care is different from Medical Care

Medicine takes an outside-in approach to health. It treats the body after sickness has taken hold with medicines or procedures that will address the symptoms. When it comes to dealing with infections like the common cold, the flu or even a COVID-19 pandemic, this approach offers little help until the sickness has occurred. Best medical practices here involve avoidance, fear and obsessive sterilization.

Chiropractic on the other hand has a philosophical INSIDE-OUT approach to health. Chiropractic care emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health. It is founded upon the principle that the body’s innate recuperative power is affected by and integrated through the nervous system.

The current global health crisis surrounding the COVID-19 Pandemic has resulted in changes to our everyday lives and has created increased levels of stress, anxiety and fear. Scientific evidence has validated that long-term exposure to stress negatively effects the immune system. As an essential health care provider, Chiropractors are in a unique position to assist their patients during this time of heightened stress because we don’t want you to just survive we want you to THRIVE!

Although there are no clinical trials to substantiate a direct causal relationship between the chiropractic adjustment and increased protection from the COVID-19 virus, there is a growing body of evidence that shows there is a relationship between the nervous system and the immune system.

Kehoe Family Chiropractic is doing everything we can to provide you with a safe, clean and healthy environment for you to continue your chiropractic care today and every day. See you soon.

FAQs

Every doctor of chiropractic has completed 4,200 hours of classroom, laboratory and clinical experience in the areas of orthopedics, neurology, physiology, human anatomy, clinical diagnosis, diagnostic imaging, exercise, nutrition, rehabilitation and more. Most chiropractic students have an additional undergraduate bachelor’s degree in pre-med studies. This makes the education for doctors of chiropractic among the most stringent of any of the health care professions.

However, there are some variations between chiropractic colleges. Some have more emphasis on developing highly skilled adjusters and there are also differences between doctors of chiropractic and their desire to become proficiently skilled in their adjusting techniques. At Kehoe Family Chiropractic the doctors have invested further resources beyond what is standard in order to become skilled in the Gonstead technique. What’s more is that the doctors at Kehoe Family Chiropractic are passionate about their work and consider it a blessing to be able to help so many people experience better health and vitality. Perhaps that is why we are so different? Regardless, we are glad you noticed.

The function of your spine can influence the way your brain perceives what is going on in your body. When you have a misalignment in your spine, it affects the way your brain tells your body to move. Chiropractic care helps restore motion and improves the way your body functions. This not only helps switch off pain sensors in the brain but can also produce specific neurotransmitters that help your body work better too. The result is optimal function and feeling great!
