What is the Myovision?

The Myovision is a computerized Spinal Examination. It detects and displays temperature differences and muscle imbalances, from misaligned spinal bones. Since doctors of chiropractic work on your spine, which is located in the back, it is difficult for patients to see what the doctor finds.  This is what makes the Myovision so valuable.  You can actually see your spinal problems and how it affects your entire body.  More importantly, as if feeling great and having your body working better wasn’t enough, the Myovision allows us to monitor your improvements as well.

Easy, Fast and Reliable.2 Step Test

1. Thermography Glide

The Thermography scan detects the activity of the autonomic nervous system.  It measures the temperature on one side of the spine and compares it to the other side of the spine.  Since blood flow is controlled by our nervous system, unequal temperature indicates that there is a problem with the nervous system at that particular level.

2.      Surface EMG

The surface EMG (Electromyography) is a device which measures the amount of electrical activity your muscles release when they are contracting, or under tension.  It is similar in function to an EKG which measures heart muscle activity.  Under normal conditions our spinal muscles should be balanced and free from tension.  However, when someone is suffering from spinal misalignments, muscles become unbalanced and tense. This can lead to early joint degeneration and disturb our overall wellbeing.  The surface EMG, is safe for infants, children, expecting moms, and patients with pacemakers.

“Bend over and touch your toes.” are the directions given to adolescents during a scoliosis screening.  This screening test is at best, adequate, to detect abnormal spinal curves and is only as good as the examiner.  Once a child is suspected of having scoliosis, further diagnosis is needed and the child is referred to an orthopedist. Unfortunately, lack of compliance, false-positive & false negative tests, lack of conservative treatment options besides bracing and electro stimulation therapy; all lead to the ineffectiveness of school spinal screenings for improving the outcomes of children with idiopathic scoliosis.

Scoliosis is the most common bony abnormality in the body, and is present in approximately 50% of the population in varying degrees. The most common form of scoliosis is idiopathic, in which the cause is unknown.  Many factors are implicated in Idiopathic scoliosis including diet, muscular imbalance, and spinal subluxations. Scoliosis can affect children of any age prior to skeletal maturity, and beyond.

Some of the more obvious signs of a significant scoliotic curve in the spine include; unevenness of shoulders and/or hip height, visible “crookedness” of the spine when viewed from behind, and a noticeable hump in the rib cage on one side. The complications from scoliosis, when advanced, include heart and lung disorders, degenerative spinal arthritis, muscular fatigue and joint dysfunction syndrome.  The adolescent growth spurt (12-16 years) is the period when the curvature has a greater tendency to deform more rapidly. Patients in this category must be frequently and carefully monitored through x-ray evaluation to assess the need for more aggressive intervention (surgery). Otherwise, conservative management through exercises, stretching, and specific Gonstead chiropractic adjustments will help to address pain, muscle spasm, posture issues and continued joint stress.

A specific spinal exam, performed by a spinal expert like a doctor of chiropractic, along with a safe and efficient Myovision scan, is a better predictor of a child’s spinal health.

If our spines were visible from the outside, like our teeth, we would attend our spine regularly like we do our teeth. Unfortunately, some choose to ignore the parts of their body they can’t see.  However, if we took better care of our spine, with regular chiropractic checkups, we would be in better health as we age.
